Clip Art Favs!

I love, love, love adding clip art to my products!  What an easy way to jazz up any parent note, assignment, or newsletter!

I have spent the past several years collecting clip art and here are a few of my favorite places to get fantastic cute images and fonts!

My Cute Graphics is an excellent site to get FREE clip art.  This site asks only that you give credit to their work.  You will fall in love with this site!  Guaranteed!

I also love ScrappinDoodles!   This site offers reasonably priced clip art that you can use for personal or commercial use.  You can purchase directly from their link (click on the picture to head over to their website) or you can purchase much of their clipart on TpT!

Graphics From the Pond is another of my favorites.  Again, this clip art is reasonably priced and there are some freebies at their store as well.  Head on over to their TpT store and see what you think!

Last, but certainly not least, is Melonheadz.  I had the privilege of meeting her this past summer at the TPT Conference 2014: Supercharge Seller Success!  in Las Vegas. She was a presenter and her story of success is truly amazing.  Melonheadz offers beautiful clip art at reasonable prices.  There are a few freebies as well!

Hello Literacy (Jen Jones) is my absolute favorite place for fonts.  Check out her store and install the fonts on your computer.  You will fall in love with her creativeness and it is super easy to have fun fonts!

This week's Friday Flash Freebie is my Classroom Response Movie Pack.

It is No Prep - Ready to Use as an enrichment tool for any educational video you show in the classroom!

Enjoy!

Our 9/11 Projects

Last week we discussed and worked on our 9/11 projects.  Today we shared our projects and wrapped up this unit!  I was so impressed and proud of my kiddos.  Here are just a few of the projects that were shared today!

These two students chose to make a memorial of the Twin Towers before the attack.

This student chose to make a memorial showing the New York City skyline after the attack.  Those two "sticks" are the beams of light that lit up the sky after the attack.  She used glow sticks that light up but are hard to see in the picture.

This student decided to conduct an interview.  See the interview below and the poster she displayed it on!

Remembering 9/11

I will never forget where I was on 9/11.  I was at the University of Nebraska taking an Elementary Art class when a fellow student walked in and said a plane had crashed into one of the twin towers.  We were all surprised that such an accident could happen.  Why wasn't the pilot paying attention?  Maybe he was having mechanical difficulties with his plane?  We speculated that it was probably a little prop plane and an inexperienced pilot.  We had absolutely no idea what was really going on.  A few of my friends and I headed over to the Student Union during a break between classes.  When we walked into the Student Union lounge area, we knew immediately something was terribly wrong.  There was a crowd of students all silently watching the televisions, which of course were tuned into the breaking coverage.  We stood there and watched as the towers came crashing down and the realization that our nation was being attacked became more obvious.  It was a moment in history that those of us who lived through will never, ever forget.

Our students need to be reminded of the many victims and heroes from 9/11.  This unit on 9/11 gently describes the events of that tragic day.  It also includes several projects that students can complete to help them to understand what so many people went through.

For the victims, their families, and our country, let us never forget.

We even blew up a map of our home town and each student put their address on a stick note.  Then we found our addresses on the map to see where each of us lived!

Martin Luther King Jr. Unit

It is my opinion that celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. is a must during the month of January.

I found this unit a little difficult to create because I wanted to focus on the positives rather than the struggles.  Yet, the struggles have to be taught as well.  I think I found a nice balance.

We read several books about MLK Jr. and discussed what we learned.
Here is a craft we did.  The kids did great!

We also made our miniature Martins!

We then talked about how we can follow in Martin Luther King Jr.'s footsteps.

Pilgrims (Thanksgiving) Unit

We are learning about Pilgrims in Kindergarten!

To start, we must learn where the Pilgrims came from.  So we created an interactive "Crossing of the Mayflower"!

We read our Pilgrim booklets!

We colored in a Mayflower Crossing Map with the starting point green for go and red for stop.

We also learned what life was like for Pilgrim children.

Check out the Pilgrims we made!
