Halloween Fun - Super Cute Witch Alert

Most of us have seen the super cute Monster pudding and Oreo cups on Pinterest.  We made it one step easier and just used pudding cups and mixed in green food coloring.  The kids loved them!

We also had fun making these super cute witches!

Microphone Freebie

Our school has really been focusing on presentation skills.  Even my kindergarteners are expected to have good presentation skills.  To make it more fun, we practice with a microphone.  The kids love it.

I attached the template to a paper towel roll (trimmed) that was wrapped in duct tape (to make it more microphone like).

Spider Unit

Is there anything more perfect than a spider unit as Halloween approaches?
We started our spider unit by reading about Sammy the Spider who taught us some interesting facts about spiders!

Then we showed off what we learned!

We also learned about the Spider Life Cycle!

Meet Funky, our pet Hamster!

Well, our room is lucky enough to have an addition to our class...our pet hamster!

Since the kiddos are now in charge of feeding, watering, and taking care of the little fella, I felt it was important that they learn a bit about hamsters and how to take care of them.

So we put together our Hamster Books!

We observed our pet hamster and drew pictures of him.

We designed super fun hamster cages!

We compared the size of our hamster to other animals.

And we completed our Hamster Art Scene!

My Little Rosary for October

I love these cute little rosaries we made from pipe cleaners and beads.  Idea came from catholicicing.com.

We made our own little rosary boxes to keep them in as well.

Flashy Math

Well...I did Monster Words for Sight Word practice so I needed something different for addition flashcard practice.  Something fun that would catch the kiddo's attention.  But what?  I thought about it for a while and I came up with Flashy Math.  I bought these cute "popcorn" boxes and labeled them "Flashy Math".

We are filling in our Flashy Math Boxes with Color Your Own Flashcards!  Click on the pictures below to download.

Free Labels from VistaPrint

I LOVE VistaPrint because they often offer great specials where you can get their products for free as long as you pay shipping.
I used this freebie to make labels with my teacher name, grade, school, etc.  (If you switch grades a lot, you may not want to put the grade on the label).  This is a great way to label books, activity sets, etc.
Shipping starts at $3.69!  Enjoy!

SCARECROWS!!!

I love Scarecrows almost as much as I love Autumn!  We started off our Scarecrow unit by making and reading our little Scarecrow Colors Book (reinforces our Colors Unit from a few weeks ago!)  They were super cute!

Check out these fun scarecrow crafts we made (with REAL STRAW!)

The students used their listening skills to finish drawing this scarecrow picture.

We labeled our scarecrows and learned the differences and similarities between scarecrows and people.

Finally, we did a little "crow counting"!

Easy Pointers

I created these pointers and my kids love them.  I have them back at our small group reading table and they use them as they read.  They could use a finger or a pencil end, but this makes reading just a bit more fun.

Super easy...colored pencil stick with a sticker on the end!

Christopher Columbus

Love this Freebie from KinderKay at

Pumpkin and Harvest Unit

This week we kicked off our Harvest Unit focusing mostly on pumpkins.
I was lucky enough to have a couple students donate pumpkins and gourds from their gardens...enough for two for each student.  So as we read our pumpkin books, we compared our pumpkins and gourds to each other and what the book was telling us.

We described our class pumpkin through drawing and words.  We estimated the circumference of the big class pumpkin using yarn (the orange is each student's estimate and the green is the actual).

We estimated the weight of our pumpkin and compared the weight of our own pumpkin to the weight of ourselves by allowing each student to pick up the pumpkin.

We even put together a pumpkin number center.

Finally, it was time to carve into the pumpkin!

Each child was encouraged to stick their hand in the pumpkin, feel it, smell it, grab some seeds (which we used below!).  They loved it!!!!!  Then we showed what the inside of the pumpkin looked like by using the seeds and yarn.

 We decorated our pumpkin pies!

And then we had fun talking about feelings with our Jack poem!
